US DOT SCASDP

The Salisbury Regional Airport has applied for a US DOT Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) grant in the amount of $750,000. The grant will be used to improve air service by adding routes and destinations and lowering air fare. The results of the competition should be announced in January 2018.

For more information about the grant click here to go to the US DOT web page. To see a copy of our application click here.

Thanks to all of our businesses and individuals who supported us by writing letters and/or making pledges. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of enthusiasm and support from our Community. The grants is awarded based on, in part, the participation of the community in supporting the airport and matching the grant funds. We truly believe that no community comes close in backing their airport as ours does. Thank you again for believing in your airport. We won’t let you down in our efforts to achieve the best air service at the lowest cost for our Community.

Although we have submitted our application, you may still send letters of support to the DOT docket clerk – the address is found on the sample letters below. We are asking our Community to continue to participate by making pledges to match the grant. If you are willing to make a pledge please download the form here and scan and e-mail the form to SBY Airport Manager, Dawn Veatch at DVeatch@wicomicocounty.org. The pledges will not become due until we identify the qualified expenditure and send an invoice to DOT for reimbursement. We have committed to the US DOT that we will match the grant funds by 20 percent. So, for example, when we get a bill for $10,000 for qualified advertising for a new route we will send the DOT a request for $8,000 and we will ask you to submit $2,000, and continue in such a manner up to the amount of your pledge. We have a steering committee made up of our business leaders who will be accountable for the management of the fund. Again, we are so appreciative of your help.

For our community businesses who want to support our grant application by writing a letter may download a sample letter of support here in Word format or in pdf format. If you want to change it up a bit so that all the letters are different please include some salient points such as the number of employees in your company, your business purpose, your need for access to convenient and affordable air travel, your support as a community for your airport and your desire for the US DOT to award this grant to the SBY Regional Airport. Please mail your original letter to Ms. Chapman and send an electronic copy to Dawn Veatch, the SBY Regional Airport Manager at DVeatch@wicomicocounty.org no later than December 14, 2017.

Thank you so much for your tremendous support and great ideas, and for sharing this energy with your partners and affiliates. We have had an enormous response to our requests and we are proud that we have the great support from our community and our business leaders. We hope to make your airport the best it can be – and to serve your needs for the highest quality of air service possible.
